Honoring the Sacrifices and Celebrating the Triumphs of Vallejo's Veteran Community

Lifesaving Blood Drive and Community Outreach

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Michael J. Libonati Post 7244 in Vacaville recently held their first-ever blood drive in partnership with Vitalant at the Vacaville Veterans Memorial Building. This event was a resounding success, with over 20 lifesaving units of blood donated. The drive was attended by Rory Nichols of the Marine Corps League Charles 'Bud' Hallam Detachment 1486, who was all smiles as he participated in this vital community effort. This initiative not only supports the local blood supply but also showcases the unwavering commitment of Vallejo's veterans to making a tangible difference in the lives of their fellow citizens.

Educating the Next Generation on Service Dogs

The mighty Cub Scouts Pack 7118 recently had the opportunity to learn about service dogs from Debi Moss of Canines for Companions. This educational session, attended by adults Ken Lambert, Orrin Shackleford, Moss, and Carmen Lambert, provided the young scouts with valuable insights into the crucial role these canine companions play in supporting individuals with disabilities. The Cub Scouts, open to boys and girls from Kindergarten to 5th grade, meet every other Tuesday at the Vallejo Veterans Memorial Building and will also be hosting a Halloween Trunk or Treat event on October 29th. This initiative not only educates the next generation about the importance of service dogs but also fosters a sense of community and civic engagement among Vallejo's youth.

Welcoming a New Member to the VFW Carl H. Kreh Post 1123

The historic Veterans of Foreign Wars Carl H. Kreh Post 1123 of Vallejo and American Canyon recently welcomed US Navy Veteran Kari Lacy as a new member. This induction ceremony was attended by a host of distinguished members, including Jim Hawkins, Kevin Milton, Steven Feller, Willy Escobedo, Robert Schwerin, Richard Schram, Dave Murphy, Hank Howard, Chuck Speir, Robert Farnell, Thomas Snyder, Dwight Richardson, and Raymond Hart. Post 1123 is deeply committed to supporting various local programs, such as the Jesse Bethel High School NJROTC, Travis AFB Fisher House, Scouting America, Voice of Democracy, Patriots Pen, Buddy Poppies, and the placement of flags at local cemeteries on Veterans Day and Memorial Day. This welcoming of a new member is a testament to the post's dedication to fostering a strong and inclusive community of veterans.

Vallejo Natives Deployed Aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt Cheer on the 49ers

Petty Officer 2nd Class Shariya MorfinReynolds and Airman Sebastian Gonzales Perez, both Vallejo natives currently deployed aboard the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier, USS Theodore Roosevelt, have sent a shoutout to the San Francisco 49ers for the 2024 football season. MorfinReynolds, who serves as a culinary specialist aboard the Theodore Roosevelt, expressed her support for the 49ers, stating, "I'm cheering for the 49ers because my mom loves them, point blank." Gonzales Perez, an aviation ordnanceman with Strike Fighter Squadron 25 attached to the USS Theodore Roosevelt, also shared his lifelong love for the 49ers, saying, "Growing up in Vallejo, I've been a big of the 49ers for a while. I love to see how the team has changed throughout the years in a good way." As these Vallejo natives continue to serve their country, their unwavering support for the 49ers serves as a reminder of the strong community ties that bind the city's residents, even when they are deployed thousands of miles away.
